Battlements and Berserkers II
September 26th, Shire of Wyntersett
(Black River, NY)
The Shire invites one and all to a day of fighting and merriment before the dread of cold returns to the land. Activities will include a bear-pit tourney (with a twist), an open field melee and the Wyntersett guardian tournament. Did you get some new gear, or learn some new things at Pennsic? Then gather thy chariots and head north.
After these battles are concluded we will re-open the list for the River Dragon Tourney. The River Dragon is unhappy, and declares tribute must be paid to children in need in the form of toys to be admitted onto the list. Help us to appease the beast by bringing a toy to donate to the Toys for Tots charity chest. This tourney will be held in a double-elimination format.
Our Minister of Arts and Science has prepared a wine and mead making demonstration for those interested in the wonders of fermentation. Merchants are always welcome. There are a limited number of tables available, and a covered location for set-up with limited space.
A side-board will be available throughout the day and a Wynter-luck feast (pot-luck) will settle the evenings hunger. Citizens of the shire will bring a variety of culinary delights for your enjoyment. If you have a simple dish that’s easy to make, feel free to bring it along. Or this would be a great time to show off your favorite recipe and test out some new ones. Please make a small ingredients tag for those with food allergies.
We have a new site this year, the Maple Street Park (no street address) in Black River N.Y. 13612. Site opens September 26th at 9:00am and closes at 9:00pm. No glass containers will be allowed, and dogs must remain leashed at all times. Those still present after closing will be drafted into the mop-and-glow militia for a period not exceeding site cleanliness.
Now for the surprise, the fee will be a steep $0 for all SCA members as well as non-members. That’s right; this event is free to all as a way of saying thank you for venturing to the far north. A donation to the Toys for Tots charity chest is encouraged for all, and greatly appreciated by many, but is not a requirement for event admittance. Donations to the Shire are always appreciated to help cover costs, but also are not required. If inclined we ask that checks be made payable to: SCA, Inc.-Shire of Wyntersett. Please contact our Autocrat Villhelm (William Reichard, 122 E. Remington St. Black River NY 13612, phone 315-773-5179) if you have any questions.
